E-commerce warehouses have many SKUs and a fast shipping rhythm; replacing cartons and loose pallets with warehouse cages for turnover is about letting pickers bend less, search less, and wait less. Choose mid-size cages: per-cage load of 300–500 kg—too large a cage actually hurts replenishment and aisle traffic.

Cage height should be kept under 1.2 m so pickers can reach goods inside the cage while standing, without frequent bending. Make cages foldable: when empty cages are returned, they stack to save two-thirds of volume, sharply cutting return transport cost—this is the most cost-effective point of using cages in e-commerce warehouses.

Use them along picking routes: arrange cages in a row numbered by picking location, stick SKU labels and location codes on the outside, and scan the cage with a PDA to confirm the slot. Place high-frequency bestsellers in middle-layer cages, and long-tail items in upper layers or rear zones, to reduce back-and-forth walking distance.

Add swivel casters to the cage bottom—one end braked—so picking carts push along effortlessly; side panels can have small doors for side access, so the whole cage need not be lifted. Divide the cage interior by category; stack soft packs and carton items in layers to prevent goods from being crushed out of shape.
