Once a workshop runs many cages, searching, mixing and losing them follows. Three measures together fix this: a numbering rule, colour identification and fixed zones.

Number by area plus sequence, for example A-012 for the twelfth cage in area A, marked at the same position on a post by stamp, paint or a durable label, and recorded in a register with specification, load rating and current location.

Colour coding speeds identification: colour by material status (waiting, in process, for inspection, finished) or by customer. Put the colour block in a fixed spot so it never covers the number, and repaint when it fades.

Separate cages in use, spare and under repair, mark zone boundaries with floor lines and keep stack heights uniform. A weekly check of numbers and locations catches losses earlier than a monthly stocktake.
