Bent posts, misaligned door frames and an upward-bowed base usually come from long-term off-centre loading, over-stacked loads or forklift impacts. Judge the extent before deciding to repair or retire.

Slight deformation means a small post bend with no cracked welds and a door that still opens: this can be straightened on flat ground with supports and a jack, checking welds as you go.

Moderate deformation comes with cracked welds or dented mesh. Re-weld first, then straighten, grind and re-coat the repaired area, otherwise the weld quickly rusts.

Do not reuse a cage with a torn post root, a broken base beam, a clearly out-of-square diagonal or displaced stacking sockets. Such cages carry a collapse risk when stacked and should be downgraded to floor use or scrapped.
